Remedial Education

57.1% of class 1 students in government run schools cannot yet identify alphabets. Only 47% of class 5 students could read a class 2 text.

While India continues to make strides in improving access to education – increase in the number of public schools, in securing participation of private schools in educating the marginalized etc, there remains a persistent apathy towards improving learning outcomes, especially those of children from slum and squatter settlements, from our most impoverished communities. The Right to Education, that is, regrettably, does not make for a Right to Quality and Holistic Education.

A consequence of such neglect, India’s destitute children continue to drop out of schools at an alarming rate. Those that continue to be schooled, grapple with syllabi and learning, and remain diffident as compared to their privately schooled affluent counterparts.

Sshrishti’s Initiatives for Remedial Learning

It is in response to this crisis that Sshrishti’s supplementary education programme was introduced. Our programme, streamlined to the needs of the respective communities seeks to impact learning outcomes to bring about a qualitative transformation in the educational parameters of the community’s children. Our remedial classes supplement school education by catering to individual needs of students and their respective learning levels. Conducted outside of school hours, the centres provide tutoring at minimal cost and through a multifarious teaching module that aims at holistic education and growth.

Begun with the manifest objective of improving learning outcomes, curtailing drop-out rates and bridging the yawning gaps in extant schooling, Sshrishti’s programmes for supplementary learning provide support and assistance to students from the poorest of Delhi’s communities.
