Strengthening Education and Resilience in the Face of Climate Change

At Sshrishti Trust, we believe education is not just about classrooms, it’s about empowering communities to withstand challenges and build a better future. Since 2024, we have been implementing a dedicated program in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, to address the growing vulnerabilities caused by climate change while ensuring that children continue to receive quality education.

Through this initiative, we aim to enhance climate resilience in Rudraprayag’s rural communities, safeguard educational institutions, and empower local populations with knowledge and resources to combat climate change effectively.

It aims to undertake construction work for government schools and community development initiatives in Rudraprayag. Our work in the region has provided us with first-hand insights into the severe impacts of climate change on local communities, including unpredictable weather patterns, soil erosion, water scarcity, and risks to agricultural livelihoods.

Through our ongoing CSR-supported project since 2024, we have worked in six primary schools and government inter colleges spread across the villages of Biro Deval, Makku, Kimana, Agastyamuni, Singoli, and Dungar. The program focused on school infrastructure construction and repairs, alongside community development initiatives that help strengthen resilience against climate-related challenges.

Villages covered: Saliakot Talla, Saliakot Malla, Gehena, Sunderkhal & Choukhutia, Sashbeni

In 2015-2016, Sshrishti Community Resource Network (CRN) was conceptualized as a comprehensive rural regeneration programme remedying the incapacitating lack of livelihood security that makes for the impoverishment and destitution of India’s most vulnerable communities.

The programme incorporated a watershed development scheme,

  • 50 percolation pits and 2000 RM contour trenches constructed for water conversation and improving groundwater reserves.
  • 60 check walls constructed or preventing soil and water runoff.
  • 4 hand pumps were installed to provide drinking water in villages.
